KS3 Curriculum

IMPLEMENTATION

All pupils follow the National Curriculum. Their academic progress is monitored by the Assistant Headteacher (KS3) and their form tutor.

During Years 7, 8 and 9, pupils study: English, Mathematics, Science, Design and Technology, a Modern Foreign Language, History, Geography and Religious Education, Information and Communication Technology, Art and Design and Physical Education.

Some pupils are withdrawn from lessons to improve their literacy skills. All students also follow a course in Personal, Social and Health Education with Citizenship which is integrated across the curriculum and supplemented through specific themed sessions.  Learn 2 Learn also underpins these attributes via a carousel structure to all students within Year's 7 - 9.

In year 9 all pupils have an individual meeting with a member of the Senior Leadership Team to discuss their possible future career paths and agree their choice of subjects to be studied at KS4.

KS3 Assessments Methods (from Sept 2019)

Each KS3 student is allocated to an EAP band (1-4) according to their average KS2 scaled score (maths and reading), rounded down to nearest whole number.  Students awarded A, N or B are allocated to band 1. Students who have no result awarded are allocated to a band based on teacher judgement/sets after they have settled in.
