Food Preparation & Nutrition

Food Preparation and Nutrition Curriculum Intent

Food Preparation and Nutrition aims to equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to cook for themselves and apply some of the principles of nutrition and healthy eating. It encourages students to both cook food and make informed decisions about a range of food related topics and food ethics as well as enabling them to feed themselves and others in a better way. As a result of studying this subject students should make better food choices and understand healthy eating which will have a positive impact on their wellbeing both now and in their future life.

Benfield follows the OCR GCSE examination board for Food Preparation and Nutrition. This specification encourages candidates to be inspired, moved and challenged by a broad, coherent and worthwhile course of study related to food and nutrition. It aims to equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to cook and apply the principles of food science, nutrition and healthy eating. The OCR qualification will encourage learners to cook and make informed decisions about a wide range of further learning, opportunities and career pathways as well as develop life skills that enable learners to feed themselves and others affordably, now and in later life.
