Course Outline

 

Pupils will gain the knowledge and understanding of child development and well-being necessary for working with children in a variety of settings. It is aimed at a range of learners who wish to be introduced to childcare and development for children aged 0-5 years

 

Typical Activities

All pupils will complete a placement in a nursery and complete a certificate in first aid.

  • Participate in everyday care routines and activities that can support the development of independence and introduction.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities when working in an early years setting.
  • Understand Equality and Diversity.
  • Understand the stages and sequences of a child.

 

Assessment Details

 

2 coursework units -

Unit 1   -           An introduction to working with children aged 0-5 years

Unit 2   -           Development and well-being 0-5 years

(1 exam 40 Multiple choice question paper)

Unit 3   -           Child care and development 0-5 years

Equivalent graded A* - D

How Learning Outside of the Classroom Operates

 

Homework will be set regularly and is vital to the completion of the course.  Individual research will be an important homework assignment. Other homework will include essays, surveys, interviews, projects, note making, reading and problem solving exercises.  Parents are asked to take an interest in this homework, and encourage pupils to complete all tasks on time and to the best of their ability.
