Art and Design Curriculum Intent

Students in Art are offered an engaging, inspiring and challenging curriculum which equips them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art and design concepts. They develop their critical thinking and artistic vocabulary through the analysis of cultural resources and contemporary and historical art work and movements and this informs their own work. A broad range of materials, techniques and processes are introduced, including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, ceramics and graphic design. Ideas and skills are combined in order to allow students to express their creativity and produce exciting, original outcomes.

Benfield follows the AQA GCSE syllabuses for Applied Art and Design, which provides pupils with an element of choice in the course which suits them best.

Students will be offered the opportunity to work in these areas: drawing and painting, print making, ceramics and graphic design. They can work in any of these areas.
