Benfield School is Newcastle's only specialist Sports College. We provide a disciplined learning environment where academic and sporting success are celebrated and rewarded. We are extremely lucky to have excellent facilities such as our very own Benfield Centre for Sporting Excellence. This comprises of a six court multiuse sports hall, a club / conference room, a Gymnastics high performance centre, dance studio, fitness suite, floodlit Astroturf, acres of playing fields and a recently refurbished swimming pool. We have excellent partnerships with two local organisations: the Northumberland Badminton Association and the City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy.
Due to the wide variety of specialist teachers and superb facilities within our PE department, we are able to offer an excellent range of out of hours learning opportunities for our students. We offer many activities including, Dance, Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Football and Trampoline to name but a few!

We are proud to be a Specialist School and we want students to share this pride. We place a great emphasis on the quality of our PE kits as it gives our students a clear identity, a sense of belonging and sets a good example to other schools and the community. We offer our students a full range of smart black kit from football socks to running tops, all with our very own Sports College logo.
Our students have a fantastic opportunity to leave our school with a number of excellent qualifications. We offer GCSE PE, GCSE Dance and BTEC First in Sport, as well as Leadership courses such as Junior Sports Leader Award. We also offer numerous Sports Coaching Awards in a variety of different sporting activities.
At Benfield School, we are proud of our record of producing Sports Leaders and offer our Post 16 students the opportunity to develop skills such as coaching, managing and officiating in sport in our Sports Leadership Academy. We have two School Sport Partnerships currently based at Benfield School. Our Partnership Development Managers assist our Sports Leadership Development Officer in creating the perfect range of sport specific development courses as well as giving Post 16 students the opportunity to study the Community Sports Leaders Award (level 1) and Higher Sports Leadership Award (level 3). Placements are guaranteed with either a school or local Sports College where students can hone their skills and develop into a top Sports Leader.
The Sixth Form is a source of great pride to the school. Students at Benfield benefit from an excellent ratio of teachers to students and one to one personal tutoring. The staff know all their students extremely well and are prepared to ensure they achieve their full potential.
All sixth form students are assigned to a tutor group; it is this tutorial support which forms the basis of the pastoral care along with the Head of Sixth Form and the full time Progression Coach. Tutorial support comes in many forms, personal, academic and social. Help is also provided with UCAS applications which can be completed on-line at Benfield.
A wide range of subjects is available at GCE advanced level (AS and A2), as well as advanced vocational qualifications and NVQ qualifications in construction. We also offer pupils the opportunity to enrol in our unique Sports Leadership Academy and Professional Dance Company.
